Would it be possible to build a kind of Hyper-Prezi presentation?

I realized that Prezi is not just the ideal tool for presenting knowledge, but also for showing the connections between different presentations. This is especially helpful for doing a series of presentations like in a course at university. Although I could do this in one really large Prezi-presentation, the presentations would be much easier to maintain if I could build a lot of small presentations and combine them to one big hyper-presentation. For this hyper presentation I might also be necessary to define more than one path to follow.

  • Dear Llama1983,

it would be possible. I also like the idea. And in the next generation of prezi (we are working on it) it'll be much more easy to do. Imagine a hyperprezi with search function! I'd like it! You have all of your course content in one prezi and you can jump back to the content of previous lession.

So be please be patient. And help us on the specification of the infterface! How do you think subprezi should be added? How to edit multiple path?

Dear Peter, I'm glad that you also like the idea and a hyperprezi with search function is brilliant. This is how I have thought about adding subprezis: a subprezi could be added like embedinng (not uploading) other media. So I would place a sub-bubble (how do you call the circles in the interface?) to the Media Bubble in the interface. If you click on this bubble then a list opens where you can choose between all your prezis or prezis which have been shared with you or search for one. Maybe you could also tag prezis to group them. This would make it easier to navigate in a huge list of prezis.

At the moment I'm unsure if you need something else than zooming-in when navigating between such different levels of prezis. Take a look at this http://prezi.com/2289/. All the layers on the left side should refer to one ore more lectures in the end. Currently I've just done a very rough sketch of the "transport layer". If the "transport layer" lecture would be a subprezi and there is just zooming-in then it would look something like it looks now. I wonder if you could have another transation (e.g. fading-into) when you change the prezi-level. In that case I could imagine that the camera zooms into the "transport rectangle" and when it's done smoothly fades into the sub-prezi. This would deal with the problem that I have to reserve enough space for the subprezi although I don't know this space in advance. But like I've said I'm not sure. Maybe zooming in is all you need and I would just replace the "transport rectangle" with the subprezi, when it's done. Perhaps this is more in the spirit of prezi.

Editing multiple paths. First of all I think each path should get a title. This title describes what the viewer can expect when following this path (what's the goal of your presentation?). So when your done with editing your first path then you can give it a title. Like I already pointed out here http://getsatisfaction.com/zuilabs/to... there should be some naviagtion especially for paths. This navigation simply could be extended for a list where you can choose between all paths which are available in that prezi. When you are in path-editing-mode then you will edit the currently selected path.

Another thing: When you are dealing with a hyper-prezi then a sub-prezi must be somehow merged into this path and might also contain multiple paths. I would say that a merging of a sub-prezi's path into the path of a super-prezi just connects the last point of the sub-prezi's path with the next point in the super-prezi's path. The multiple path issue could be dealt with in two different ways: the first way could be that as soon as you're diving into a sub-prezi you have to choose the path which you like to follow. The second way could be that the hyper-prezi can define a default path which is taken unless the presenter/audience likes to choose a different one.
    • Brilliant this answers my question about if you can havea decision tree or critial path, It seems there is only one critical path per presentation, so it is hard to adapt it to several audiences, I guess you just go by some of the first steps quickly to more advanced ones, e.g to makea trifle, do you know how to make sponge cakes, what fruit do you like best, can you make custard, now layer it up, each item has its own instructions to explore.

I like the idea of a "wormhole". What is a "Mobius" space, but cross-linking is good. I think you would be able to do something like the intro of "Desperate Housewives" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DozfGx.... You would always switch to another prezi when changing the location. I'm not sure if there is already a word for this kind of animation.

  • Wow. Prezi like the intro of Desperate Housewives. Cool metaphor! I like it. Only question e have to answer is how to handle large amount of data. A prezi can be as large as 100Mb. if you click it, we have to download 100Mb data.

But we are working on it.

I'm very excited about having Hyper-Prezi's, where an image can be a link to a new Prezi file. But as a current work around, can't you just 'Share' the Prezi file with everyone. Then put the website address of the Prezi file into the first file. Then when you click the web address the new file will load a new screen.

    ???
    • view 1 more comment
    • Hey yes, that's a good work-around. But you should be aware that this linking of prezis can become quite confusing as you cannot 'see' where you've been coming from. Because when you follow the link the new Prezi will be visually out of the context - in a new browser window. Of course this is all the same with hypertext, but Hyper-Prezis would have the great effect that you could keep visually the context, because of this 'diving experience'. What do you think?
    • Llama1983, 'you cannot see.' As in you the audience or you the presenter?

I think the ‘diving experience’ will be a major improvement for the audience. And the bottom line is audience experience. However, my current project focuses on presenter navigation.

I’m currently working on designing a comprehensive presentation (CP) of basic company information. I’m trying to create navigation for the presenter in the design (I’m not focused on the graphic design). The digital file will be available to the whole company with about 12 regular users.

Hyper Prezi’s solve a major problem I was running into: How can one person be the owner of the CP file to update it, while 12 people are continually adding specific detail frames? We would quickly end up having the digital file saved in 12 different places and the owner would never be able to properly update each file. But if each person has their personal Prezi file where they add the details they want for each presentation, and they can link to it from within the CP, then there is still just one saved file of the CP.

Two issues with the work around:

      1) When you share with everyone, than the data is no longer private...
      2) The hyper links only work if the computer your on has internet. (sometimes when you’re a guest at a company computer you don’t have internet rights...)

I am doing a similar thing at my university where we are training college students to present projects they are working on in prezi. Do I need multiple accounts or can I have them under my account? Also can I get prezi on moodle web with functions where it can be moved around so students can explorer each others prezi?

Ideas for the user interface: have a simple visual scroll menu of the projects in your account where you can just click and connect to that project, copy and paste different areas of the presentation into a larger one. Basically, taking parts of presentations to create a larger more comprehensive one. and maybe even a build in open source copyright function where everyone can use different materials from other presentations by just clicking an agreement button?

I would focus this a bit.
    1) Each prezi's starting frame (path point 0) is currently used to create a thumbnail for that prezi. The thumbnail is used as it is now - for listings of unopened prezis.
    2) Use the same view to also make a full frame screenprint - created either on a 'save and close' or the first time the prezi is inserted as a subprezi using the method below.
    3) Add to the media bubble menu - a new item called Media - Prezi. Clicking on it opens a selection window that allows a prezi to be selected from the list of existing pezis and on selection, the full size screenprint is inserted as an image along with the URL or relative path to the sub-prezi - this way a path can go from screen print to screen print viewing the 'preview' of each sub-prezi. A second zoom-in click on a subprezi's image drills into the sub-prezi, in essence loading it in the same viewport without loading a second instance of the viewer.
    4) A 'back' icon placed in the top or bottom left now appears and is used used to keep track of and reload the parent (calling) prezi by remembering the URL and path node number of the screenprint, putting the user back in context in the top-level prezi. Also, the designer could circularly link back to the so called 'parent' prezi using the same method - the 'index' or parent prezi as simply one media image and link in the subtopic prezzi that the designer can place as the last view in the path.

I like what Duke said, that if you load a Prezi within a 'Mother'prezi you can press a single button to go back to the 'mother'prezi...

I would love the idea of hyper-prezis as for instance for a company you could have 1 'mother'prezi, with the basic information about the company which is suitable to every body, and depending on who you present for you can click on the 'child'presi of your choice...

but it would be great to have it work with downloaded prezi's to make sure that it all goes quickly... and to bypass the browser inconveniences, such as no shortkeys etc.

this sounds a good idea. As a teacher, id like to be able to set my students to create a prezi on different topics, and then be able to import all of their prezis into a single larger prezi to give a broarder over-view within the single prezi. One can imagine adding the students presentation over the year so that by the end, they have a large prezi which gives an overview of the entire course to be able to look back on while they revise.

  • This may seem too simple but how about having the "first" Prezi list the topics to be covered. Each of these topics would have a link to another Prezi, being specific to that topic. When the new topic is "opened" it is in another window, allowing that window to be closed at any time, whcih would then show the topic list of the "first" Prezi. As an addition, each 'topic' Prezi could have their own "topic-lets" Prezi's! Think of it as "drilling down" in a web site - you can always get back to the home page (first Prezi). In this manner, each of the topics can be edited seperately, w/changes/edits, at ant time, and new topics can be added as new ideas germinate.

Like Llama1983, I am a university professor. I teach a few survey history classes for which a timeline-oriented Prezi would be an incredible tool-but only really useful if the entire course could be placed in a singel Prezi with multiple paths, one for each lecture/mini lecture, and the ability for students to roam through the Prezi at their leisure in addition to following lecture / mini lecture links.

No one from the company has responded to this thread in a year...What is the status of this "consideration"?
    • Dear Ed, I totally agree with your point of view.
I've tried to build a big map including all the contents of my course: this would be a powerful tool both for me and the students.
Unfortunately prezi doesn't still seem to support it: when I was to finish the work ...I couldn't open my prezi anymore.
See the post titled "Do I want to make anything too big for prezi?"
I'm still waiting for a solution by the staff...
    • I agree--I also use Prezi to teach grad. classes. It would be great to embed a "Prezi within a Prezi" and have a way to sort/organize/sequence the "hyper-Prezi". It would be an amazing organizational tool! I would love an update from Prezi on this.

  • Just thought of another idea - using Jing, or any other video software that can capture a working Prezi, use those videos as seperate "links" - example - 5 Prezi's made into videos, have all 5 inside a frame, the frame being a path point.
When you reach this path point you would be able to "play" the video of your choice, that choice being a Prezi. This might be a workable "workaround" until we have the ability to choose an interactive path withiin an exisiting Prezi. what think?

  • Here is my solution for a hyper prezi. So i'm not sure this is a useful workaround but let me know:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L_qwlz...

I've taken a handful of the prezi's on Prezi's website and embedded them into a powerpoint slide (its an automated process). One prezi for each slide (they can be sized up) and then applied the Powerpoint non linear visual navigation. You can easily switch between prezi's and they will remain at the point you left them until you return.

This is how you embed a prezi using our add-in. You just repeat this process.

I like the slidedynamic workaround, but it is just that, a workaround. I'd encourage the Prezi team to keep moving towards a solution for multiple prezis in the native Prezi interface. There is a real need out there to use Prezi and Powerpoint together, and I was one of the contributors here that pushed for that solution as well (thanks again slidedynamic), but a cool plugin for powerpoint should not stop the Prezi team from moving forward on a Prezi solution.

You can know embedd multiple offline prezis. we have also released a small widget which when added to your prezi and embedded using our add-in, allows you to scale the prezi within the ppt slide "full hight and width" this widget allows you (from within prezi) to navigate to the next and previous slides, both on click and using up and down arrows on the keyboard. As always Greg any comments or suggestions of how you would want things to work in an ideal world would be helpful as we continue to deleop our software. thanks. Remeber you started this :)

    Great Idea,

This would also solve a problem I'm having.

I wanted users to have the option to go to a more detailed prezi at different frames of a prezi I was making, but then I realized there's no way to do it in prezi. It would be very useful if the audience could nicely tranisition deeper into "sub-prezis".

My suggestion on how to accomplish this in Prezi would be to have an entity called a prezi-link that are visible in a prezi similar to links in web-pages. And when users click on those links they transition into a sub-prezi (maybe at a given frame). When navigating to a sub-prezi there should always be a prezi-link back to the "parent" prezi they were in before they navigated to the the sub-prezi.

These gives prezi creators control of how much detail to present at each prezi and gives a prezi a possibility to grow like a wiki or web page. Which would be really awesome. What do you think?!

Maybe some of you can help me with this:

I have an idea for a very ambitious presentation. It would basically follow the prezi format, but the presentation would need to be different in two ways:

First, it needs to be nonlinear, with multiple paths-- essentially an 'idea web,' or like one of those choose-your-own-adventure books.

Second, the presentation needs to be 3d, a little like the original Desperate Housewives opening sequence: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DozfGx...

I know that neither of these features is available with Prezi, but my question is this: does anybody know what software DOES have these features? After Effects seems like the obvious choice for the 3D part, but I don't think it has nonlinear capabilities. Flash, on the other hand, would probably work for the nonlinear part, but I don't think it has 3d capabilities.

I don't know if this even belongs on a Prezi forum. Thoughts?

It would be interesting to see a multiple-path prezi, where not only you can program 3 or 4 paths through your presentation, for different audiences, but that you can even select different directions at "node"-points in your prezi. Like you have a startpoint, and you select Path A, then after 3 transitions you are at a node-point and can choose with some keybinds (up, down, left, right) in which direction to continue, depending on how the audience receives your presentation. So not only multiple paths programmable, but also connected with nodes to take a direction depending on how the presentation goes, especially useful for interactive presentation, where you want the audience to take part. Like in lectures and lessons at schools or uni's.

I'd love to see the ability to "deep link" to a particular object/view on a Prezi. Then I could clearly illustrate the links between the concepts I'm presenting...double click (or some other action) on one object in one Prezi, and it takes me (like a portkey) to another particular place/view in a different Prezi.
Please consider adding it...even if you have to make a link target manually, such as clicking on the plus sign and "get link to this object" ...it would probably look something like http://prezi.com/rand0m-lett3rs/#1525 for object 1525...customizing these would be helpful too, but you can use a custom URL shortener in the meantime. Then, you need to allow people to make objects (e. g. images) hyperlinks, and you've got a working system!

I'd like to be able to run a master prezi with links to child prezis. From a business standpoint, this would let me customize a deck using ready-made child prezi's. I'd be totally happy with a fade in to the 0 point on the path of the child presentation and a fade out to the last position within the parent.

More immediately, I'd be able to use it at church. We could use this to replace powerpoint and add some zing to song lyrics used during services. A hyper-prezi would enable me to call on previously used materials like song lyrics without rewriting them into the parent or just switching screens during the presentation.

Small one here http://www.slidedynamic.com/online-demo to see what i mean

Ive tested it upto a prezi with 500 path nodes/points but its unlimited really
You can select only the Path points you want or all them. You can customize the text displayed and the teleport/navigation is minimal as its dropdown. You can also customise the colors so they are more in keeping with your design and branding. It works offline for mac and windows or online in websites, wordpress google blog etc etc. Just an idea

PS this has nothing to do with our powerpoint add-in its native prezi and there is nothing to add to prezi

They never load. Is my presentation too large? I've uploaded about 15 pages from a pdf document with images. All those pages have loaded. It's just the click me buttons. Thanks.

I think this suggestion could nicely combine with the suggestion named “Possibility to have context while zooming”. You could use the context frame to maintain the bigger context of the HyperPrezi.

Though I love the sophisticated ideas in this thread, having worked in software I know that it is crucial to control the scope of feature changes. Here is a very stripped-down suggestion that might help a lot of people:

Create a permanent unique ID for each object (or at least each frame) in a Prezi. (More likely, expose an object unique ID model you already have. Prezi developers, are you listening?)
Allow users to jump to those objects through HTML hyperlinks referencing objects by their unique ID.

Example in use: A teacher creates a single prezi for a course. The (long) path covers many lessons. Each week the teacher sends an email to students with a link to the Unique ID of the frame at the front of the relevant portion of the prezi's path.

Another example in use: A sales manager adds a new product description into the company's standard pitch. To highlight the change, she sends email with a link directly to the changed portion of the Prezi.

Another example in use: a nonprofit organization wants to highlight its work through success stories, while keeping the big picture in view. Using twitter and Facebook, they promote specific frames of their overall prezi, focusing on two or three per week. (example: http://bit.ly/edprezi )

Please do NOT create this solution referencing the object's PATH number. In practice, Prezis evolve, and these links that refer explicitly to the path number end up creating problems!

    Bit more info
    http://www.slidedynamic.com/prezidyna...
its free, unofficial and not supported but it works so i hope it might be useful
1.as i say its not meant to be a solution
2.its free (i'm doing my best)
3.yes its not ideal as its based on views
    4. The config form kinda makes it sort of easy to adjust if you change path view ordering)
    5. You can do a text search for main navigation links for large prezi's upto 500 path points

I'd really like this for business. Having multiple paths to be able to create an overview, then spin off into either business or technical prezis would be great.

Having multiple paths could open up Prezi to facilitating explorations of complex issues rather than simply giving linear presentations, effectively turning Prezi into a collaborative living sketchbook.
