Greetings!
In this new year, I would like to announce: my first ever Android app:
the UNofficial Prezi Player for Android.
Who knows, it may become 'the tablet app' of 2012 ;-0
Note:
It is very UNoffical: it is not officially endorsed by the prezi team; the app is developed by an individual (me).
Neither the prezi team, myself, or anyone else on this forum can give any support for this app: you are essentially ON YOUR OWN.
(Allthough success and failure reports in this thread are welcome).
The app is based upon a hack described in an earlier post ( http://community.prezi.com/prezi/topi... ), is (again) dependent on an app by issess and on Adobe's flashplayer, and has the same restrictions (i.e.: no possibility to edit prezi's, only show).
If you read this post first and things are not clear, please read that earlier post.
For the record: I am not affiliated with the Prezi team, nor with Issess, nor with OpenIntents, and am just glad to be able to use their products.
The basic function of the app:
- convert a 'prezi zip file' to a folder with the correct content so that it can be played locally.
- guide the user (YOU) in going through the neccessary steps to 'install' a prezi locally, and play it with the issess flash player.
LEGALESE:
WARNING:
The app is in ALPHA stage: it works on my Android (Galaxy S2), has NO KNOWN bugs (at the moment of this post), but for all I know it may wreck your hardware, it may ruïn your life, it may cost you your job:
All very unlikely but: IT IS YOUR RISC to go ahead and try it:
It is a free app (and therefore) WITHOUT ANY WARRANTY, not even 'fit for a specific purpose'.
Please click on the 'about' and 'instructions' buttons (and read the text) before using this app.
It may work on your hardware, then again it might not.
If you like the app, and it 'makes you go PRO', please tell me (UNofficialPreziPlayer@gmail.com).
If you want to, you may tell this as well to the prezi team ;-0
As stated earllier: I can NOT give support on this software: I did develop it, but this is in my free & spare time, and I do have a day job.
I will, however, read all messages to the gmail adress above (provided they are not caught by Google's spamfilter;-0).
In the following Youtube video (http://youtu.be/3BeyxRrNObY) you can see the app in working, and you can hear and see how to go about for installing this software outside the Android Marketplace.
Further instructions, and a link* to where you can download the app will follow in the second post.
*The app is developed by me, I am not sponsored and the app itself does not use adds, hence: no revenu, and therefore I decided to 'forgo' the opportunity to pay a developers fee for the Android Marketplace.
Kind regards,
Roel

1Detailed instructions (link at the end of this comment):
NB: instructions may change without notice. Within the app, I will bundle the latest instructions.
1. Download the apk and install it.
As it is not available from the Android Market (I have no sponsor to pay for the developers fee;-0), you must allow "install packages from untrusted sources":
Settings ==> Applications ==> Untrusted sources
2. You need the issess flashplayer, available from the Android Market.
Please install it. You will need the adobe flashplayer as well, you will be prompted by the issess flashplayer.
3. You need to download a prezi zip file.
Do this by logging in with a browser on prezi.com, select the prezi you want to view, select 'download' and then the 'standalone'. Download by clicking the link. The resulting zipfile will probably be located at /sdcard/download or similar; you will need to find this place later so make sure you can find it.
4. Start the app.
Read the text, click on the about and read further.
5. Click on the 'Find Prezi zip file' button.
Now is the time you need remember where that zip file was. With any luck you will be redirected to your favourite filemanager, which will guide you through the different folders. Locate the zipfile, after clicking on it, press on OK(if you have a filemanager that supports opentintents), or 'back' if you use a different filemanager. In the background the application now unpacks the zipfile, puts it in a special place, and adds the 'start_prezi.swf' file that you will need later.
6. An optional step (but needed the second, third and consecutive time you start the flashplayer from issess):
Click on the 'empty cache' button. You will be shown the details of the swf player from issess. Click on the 'Empty cache' button (the text depends on your locale: in Dutch it is 'Buffer leegmaken', in German probably 'Buffer leermachen' or similar. Press 'back'. You are now back at the UNofficalPreziPlayer screen.
7. Press the 'play prezi' button. You are shown the standard screen from the SWF player by issess.
Click on the 'download' map. You will see the unpacked folder. Click on it and navigate to the start_prezi.swf file: click on it, and launch your prezi from there. For 'open mode' select "use HTTP Protocol(Video Streaming)". Good luck! If you like this app, please send me a mail at UNofficialPreziPlayer@gmail.com.
8. Enjoy!

Great idea. However I cannot seem to get it to work on the Galaxy Tab. OI, Issess, Adobe installed, but silent fail after selecting the proper .zip prezi file.
*snif* -
-
Ah yes!! Got it to work after selecting http-modus instead of local html file (at fire up of Issess player).
Thanks for the assist!
Note: my Galaxy Tab does not have a back button, so when in full screen mode, i cannot get out. But who cares :-) I am looking forward to any improvements, but already happy that I can finally use Prezi when not on a WiFi network.-
i would love to know what worked since its not reading on my Galaxy tab

Ara,
As far as I know, my app runs perfectly on the Galaxy tabs.
So some questions:
- were you able to install the app at all (using 'untrusted sources')?
- is your android version between 2.2 and 4.0.x (including)? (From Jelly Bean [4.1] there seems to be no Adobe flash available)
- did you install the necessary apps from Google Play (the app from issess and a filemanager like openintents)?
- did you try it using a simple prezi zipfile (export as 'for standalone', and transfer the complete zipfile to a location on your tablet)?
If any answer is no, please state any problems/messages/behaviour you observed so that I might be able to troubleshoot the issue.
Kind regards,
Roel
P.S. There are people from over 30 countries using it successfully, chances are it will work with your tab as well;-0 -

For those who downloaded: the dropbox link now points to a slightly updated version, that solves a problem with certain zipfiles that people have reported.
If you send me a mail (at the unofficial emailadress;-0) and indicate you want to recieve informations about updates, I can mail them to you.

For those of you with Android froyo (2.2) instead of 2.3.3 or higher, I uploaded a VERY VERY VERY alpha app that MAY install on your Android froyo machine: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/14161674/FROY...
The app is slightly less polished then the 'official UNofficial' app, including an experimental button that does nothing ;-0
I do not have froyo myself, so cannot test whether it actually works. If it works on your froyo Android, please let me know?
Kind regards,
Roel -

I’m
happy
Hi all,
Just decided to 'bump' the app to beta status:
a few bugs have been removed (not unzipping everything needed, and a problem with older Android versions [froyo]).
Have not been able to test whether it actually works with froyo, but I think it will.
Download location is the same, original, dropbox link; please see the second post in this thread.
For those who downloaded the hacked froyo version: you should be able to use the (better!) new version at the original link, which should no longer give a force-closed on trying to empty the cache. Please uninstall the froyo version first.
The new beta version should be more friendly in use: after unzipping, there should no longer be neccessary to click on the 'download' folder within the SWF player.
Kind regards,
Roel

Hi Clizia,
Not sure I understand. The link in the second post ( http://dl.dropbox.com/u/14161674/UNof... ) works perfectly for me...
Perhaps 'right click'+'copy URL to clipboard' and 'paste' in the browser works?
Kind regards,

Roel, this app is superb and does the job magnificently. Well done, seriously!
TEAM PREZI, you really should get your finger out. If an unpaid developer has managed to get portable Prezi's working on Android then it begs at least one serious question.
This question is how Prezi with their non-trivial amount of cash ($14m) are still not able to provide clarity or substance as regards Android support. -
-
Very good "hack". Works perfectly on my ASUS Transformer.
So pleased that Andrioid is getting support. These tablets work far better for business purposes than the Apple equivalent! -
-
Do you need to have a Pro license to be able to acquire the presentation as a SWF? We seem to only be able to get an .exe or MacOS .app.
-
no, you only need to download the zipfile with the standalone prezi: the app adds neccessary files....

Hi all,
Just made a new topic: http://community.prezi.com/prezi/topi... describing the new features of the latest beta of the UNofficial prezi player for Android.
Please continue any discussions in that new post.

nice for watching offline prezi's! I guess you are all aware that if you use "Dolphin browser" you can watch the Prezi's online?
-

hi. downloaded the app and my prezi, but on opening the zipfile the app just goes blank. (right after clicking on the zebraIcon), I've got no clues, any suggestions on how to get this nice musthave working on my transformer?

@avanduuren101:
For more information on how the app works, please see the (continuance) thread on: http://community.prezi.com/prezi/topi...
From the description it sounds as though you downloaded the unofficial app, downloaded a zipfile and then clicked on the zipfile (either directly from a browser, or through the 'search' from within the UNofficialpreziplayer-app).
It should then unzip the file, after which it tries to open the issess app with the correct (unzipped) folder. So the question is:
Did you install the isess app ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/de... ) from Google Play?
Kind regards,
Roel -

@Migs
1. Please place any questions on the newest thread:
http://community.prezi.com/prezi/topi...
2. I have ONE report of success on running the UNofficial Prezi player on the Nexus 7 (which runs Jelly Bean), using the following link for installing flash:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attac...
(This link is mentioned in the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showt... ; beware, I have not used this link myself and cannot verify as to its sources).
So I do think that it IS possible to use Adobe flash (and hence my app) on Jelly Bean; as there is no more development on this front from Adobe, any security issues that may become clear, will not be fixed. (In other words: if some hacker develops an exploit using Adobe flash, there is no-one who will make a new version in which this exploit is removed. Therefore: use at your own risk!).
Kind regards,
Roel -

Its only works for some few seconds on my samsung tab 7.7 , after that the display becoming white with play option in the middle and i have to start all over again

Thomas, this is due to flashlimits which, unfortunately, are usually somewhat lower on the tablet then on eg a pc or mac. Some things that may help: scale the smallest object in view up, or the largest in view down. Choose 'high resolution' in the swf player from issess. A trick that sometimes work: directly when the Prezi is opened, but before the 'play' button appears, pan away quickly. I have seen this avoid the reloading issue you see (flash sees a problem, perhaps die to rounding issues, and decides to 'recover' through reloading (out is the same button you will see when loading a flash video on your website).
File size of Prezi does not seem to really matter here, more the number of pixels of smallest object in view.
The flash limits vary from Android to Android device, eg my galaxy s2 can take more then the tab 7.7, and I imagine eg the nexus 10 would rock.
good luck, and with kind regards,
Roel -

Hi,
I have a problem. I explain:
when I install your .zip file prezi_example it work's, but if I would view my own prezi presentation I can't because, no exist a .swf such as start_prezi.swf and in the folder I don't find this file.
Have you a solution for me please ?-
@C3lin3 A
(Unusual name, that ;-0)
The thread you are responding to, is on the ALPHA version of the app. The app is now in 'GAMMA' (there was a BETA version, but it had to change due to changes in the way the prezi team forms the zipfile for standalone prezis).
The GAMMA series is described in the following thread: http://community.prezi.com/prezi/topi...
One of the changes is that it no longer works with the zipfile (associated with the 'prezi for standalone' download option), but with the (usually MUCH smaller) pez file (associated with the 'prezi for prezi desktop' download option).
If you encounter any problems with the GAMMA series, please comment on the thread that deals with this version, and I will try to help you.
Kind regards,
Roel

If you use my app, it will add the start prezi swf file when unzipping.
If you want to go 'outside' my app, you are welcome; I guess you could in that case better work from this post:
http://community.prezi.com/prezi/topi...
That post instructs you how to get the "start prezi" file.

It sounds like I need your app. Unfortunately, when I download the apk file and click it, I get the message "there was a problem parsing the package". I tried two different file managers, and the package installer and I got the same error. Could there be a problem with the apk, or could the problem be that I am using a Galaxy Tab?
Huw
When I click on the dropbox link, it installs perfectly for me. And for e.g. Natasja below, who also uses a Galaxy Tab, there were no problems installing the app.
Could you please check whether you have selected 'allow install applications from untrusted sources': as it is not listed on the Android Market (no sponsor for the 25 dollar developers fee;-0), you need this to install the app.
If you have, could you try again? It may be that there was a (temporary) problem with the dropbox hosting? My experience with dropbox is positive, but even the best service may sometimes be down...
Kind regards,
Roel

Not sure I understand. You downloaded the app, installed it, installed SWF player from issess, downloaded the zip file from prezi, unzipped it using the UNofficialPreziPlayer app? Do you see a file ../mnt/sdcard/swf_player/< < name of prezi > > start_prezi.swf ? And if you click on it, and in the SWF player from issess select 'http mode', what happens then?
Kind regards,
Roel
first of all thank u for your reply. I really need to see these presentation on my tablet for work...so i'm a little be exhausted. Where i can find r application? maybe i downloaded the wrong one. I've already allowed " install packages from untrusted sources". then what i should do? thanks for ur time and help!!!
kind regards,
clizia
