Prezi is great, works well, fits my business model (mostly), and I use it almost daily.
Thought: How difficult would it be to allow for italics in print? I'm not talking about selecting alternate fonts, just being able to use an italic version of the current fonts.

3There are clearly a lot of people who find the lack of italics baffling - it must be one of the most basic things for any program involving text.
For anyone working in education or academia, this is a fatal stumbling block. I'm afraid prezi will never touch ppt in the education sector unless this is solved. -
3C'mon guys we need BOLD Italics and underlined text . I'm able to do it here, but you don't have it as a feature!

I can't believe I paid for a "Pro" package. I was just about to recommend Prezi to all my colleagues, but now I certainly will not.

3For sure. I'm a film and television student and I'm constantly referencing titles of films, television shows, journal articles, plays and books. I need italics to properly reference all of those things. It seems foolish that bold, italics and underline wouldn't be included in a basic text editor. I have to echo the sentiment that it's ridiculous to spend time developing things like grouping by frame and panning and zooming when your basic text entry isn't fully functional. What are you thinking? -

I just spent two hours learning how to use this new cool way of presenting a topic for my microbiology class, carefully thinking about how to organize my ideas in this web concept, and cannot italicize species names. This basic function is NECESSARY, and I guess I need to go back to powerpoint. awesome.

5I make a lot of presentations that include statistics, and it is impossible to do this without using italics. There must be millions of people in education, both students and educators who need italics, and I'm sure a few million more people being able to use your product would be good on every level. Talk to your marketing people, if they are interested in becoming big in education, introduce italics!!!!

I agree as well.. there are many urgent things that would improve prezi a lot (italics is one, but also the possibility to add a link to a document - or example a document that cannot be embedded, or a video). I am very frustrated by new developments that are only frills and I am starting to look at alternatives. Alternatives are now are starting to exist - also for free - and since they focus on the basics they might end up to be more user friendly.Comment

And - as usual, the funny thing is that italics and bold can be added in the simple editor of this forum!!!! It is such a basic request, I really wonder why it is so hard to implement.

It may be wise to start a new thread about this. This thread was started when italics did not exist at all in prezi. At this point. some themes DO have italics in the as one of the text styles. That was not the case when this thread was started.
Alternatives? Keynote can replicate some of the feel of prezi if you have a mac, and adobe after effects kills anything else, but includes long render times that most people will not be able to wait for and a price tag that will make you cringe.
For now... why not use a prezi layout that does have italics as an option, and start fighting for italics in the editor settings in a new forum this thread is about the having italics in prezi. THEY ARE IN PREZI... so I imagine they feel they have responded to the request (and they HAVE)
a new thread needs to start with a more specific comment about the WAY in which italics are implemented. This thread is now very old, and probably overlooked by the prezi team.-
The message is clear an loud for the prezi people. There are MANY threads on the need for italics, in different shapes and forms. It is very clear what people are asking. And all threads have been ignored. "There's none so deaf as those who will not hear"

I'm an academic, and I have been seriously considering using Prezi for my class presentations for some time now.
I ran into the problem with italics, bold, etc. on my second day - and it has really turned me off. I work in linguistics, where we absolutely need not only italics but also different fonts, etc. in order to talk about language.
After the initial enthusiasm, it's really shocking how little you can do with Prezi in terms of language! (and probably maths, etc. - anything scientific) -

Here's what Adam, the founder, said about the ability to italicize words... FOUR YEARS AGO: "we will include this in the future."

I also bought the pro version of Prezi. In my field it is absolutely critical to be able to italicize individual words. (For titles for books, etc.) I let my Prezi account expire because of this one issue. Then, this past month, I signed up again and bought the "Pro" account again. Forgive me for being so naive -- I had ASSUMED that since the founder said 4 years ago that they would fix that *surely* it would be fixed by now.
Boy was I wrong. So I have Prezi "Pro" for another year... and I can't italicize words. This is insanity.
Prezi staff: Your disrespect (contempt?) of your customer is disgusting. You have an amazing product -- something you should be proud of. But this one little thorn is making you look terrible. Seriously: HOW HARD CAN IT BE TO ADD THIS OPTION??!!
(And, to those of you confused above, we mean add this to every single font and every single way of adding text to Prezi. Honest-to-god, it should not be that hard.) -
