Aspect Ratio Feature Released! (toggle between 4:3 and 16:9 view)

Edit Subject

Now hitting the keyboard shortcut CTRL+SHIFT+M in the editor (Same on PC and Mac) shows a grid that allows you to adjust your content to 4:3 or 16:9 screen resolution view. This makes it very easy to fine tune your prezis for projection, or to be shown on a big screen that has a different resolution than your computer.

Hit CTRL+SHIFT+M multiple times to toggle between 4:3 and 16:9 resolution view. Hitting the keyboard shortcut again disables the feature.

If I am going to create a presentation to be shown on projector, it would be VERY useful if I could see a boundary using the aspect ratio of my projector (or monitor, or what ever) so that when I place things I can be sure that the important bits are placed well in the visible space of the page.

Another option would be to provide an "invisible" frame (one which is visible during editing but not when showing to provide visual cues while editing and a 'full screen' anchor point for paths) and the ability to add a frame with a specific aspect ratio. This would allow me to isolate things when necessary.

Hi there. I use Prezi for Presentations that are shown both on projector screens and also sometimes through modern large TV's. Now, sometimes I've had situations where a Prezi that looks fine on my computer then shows the edges of the next slide, which looks highly unprofessional. So, how do I prepare my Prezi's so this won't happen? Is there a generic aspect ratio setting that I can use and what resolution should I set my screen to so I can see a faithful output of what the end product will be... Many thanks, Shed

Using [CTRL] + [ALT] + Frame could result in a frame with a border ratio of 4:3, because most projectors use this.

[Shift] + [ALT] + Frame maybe could be 16:10.

This could avoid some pitfalls.

Holding shift to draw a frame with the 4:3 ratio stopped working on my computer. It isn't the only keyboard shortcut that isn't working but it's the one that I'm missing the most.

For instance, the shortcuts like ctrl+D to duplicate are not producing anything. In contrast, I can press "space" to toggle from edit to presentation mode and pressing F or S (etc.) gets me to the frame or shape environment.

I'm using the web interface with Firefox (3.6.3), Flash Player (10,0,1,218). OS: Ubuntu 10.04

Have been trying to trial run a presentation:
problem 1: projector is showing 4x3: I don't seem able to change the setting on projector? I spent a lot of time on Prezi - it looks like its going to be wasted!
problem 2: in projector mode, it is not following the path?
problem 3: the control panel (top left) is not available to let me make amendments.

Sorry for any bother - but if I can't solve in 24 hours I'm urgently and reluctantly, back to powerpoint!

again thank you all for those new features.

about aspect ratio :
this is an important subject as it talks about freedom. How prezi gives us freedom in showing things really throught our eyes... but freedom isn't easy to deal with :)

when a film director build his film, he sees the theater with his panoramic screen and the amazing sound... not the 4:3 Ipad screen, but a lot of people may see this film on the Ipad...

I think that we should know when we began a prezi on which screen it's gonna be viewed, also, as prezi IS the view we have on those items in the canvas, I think we should make a prezi for each different screen :) yes, I do !

prezi is (almost) illimited, you have no bounds to stretch to the format you which, it's your point of vue that should move :)

Liberty requires to work hard.

You are talking about some template you need as boxes inside the prezi to refer to. There is already the 4:3 one (ctrl+draw frame), but the only thing I think about is to set the window browser (or in prezidesktop) with the ratio you need. As prezi centers items in each path regarding the window where it is displayed.

  This feature aims at making it easier for you to address a certain aspect ratio (like 4:3 for most projectors), but also makes sure that you will have the same things on the screen, while presenting, in other aspect ratios too, by masking extra content.
  So you don't have to create different prezis for each aspect ratio, just enable the aspect ratio guide and this will make sure the same thing will be visible no matter what the aspect ratio of the screen will be, while presenting.

HI there!

When I am in 4:3 the client logo gets dropped off the left corner! Is there a way to stop this? It's essential that the logo stays!

Also, please bring in aspect ratio for the desktop as soon as possible!! It's the BEST update :D

Try as I might, Ctrl + Shift + M does nothing for me. I have a 16:9 laptop but create Prezis almost exclusively for 4:3 projectors, so I just resort to changing my display resolution to a 4:3 while I'm working on the Prezi. I'd really like to try this feature! Help!

  Please make sure Prezi has focus before pressing CTRL+SHIFT+M. You can do this by clicking on any button or by panning the canvas.
  Once you press CTRL+SHIFT+M you should see a message with the new aspect ratio value and a dashed guide rectangle appear.

  When I go in my prezi to show mode, there is 4:3 resolution with black edges visible. But when i am in editing mode, there is NO grey dashed rectangle to see where are the borders of the 4:3 resolution. Please help! I'm working on 16:9 resolution computer screen. When I press CTRL+SHIFT+M there is notification in the middle of the screen to tell me that i am switching between resolutions but when it dissapears nothing is different. As i said, i can't see borders of 4:3 resolution. In show mode, 4:3 is working normally.

  After seeing Alyssa's post about the orange lines, I tried Ctrl+Shift+M again and it still doesn't work. This whole time I've been using IE. I just tried it in Firefox and it worked like a charm. So, I'm thinking there is a setting in IE that is blocking it. I'm using IE9 without Compatibility view. Any ideas?

Hey guys,

Unfortunately you can't make that grey line appear again, but you will see an orange line every time you click on the thumbnail (left-hand side of the screen). We changed it this way so it's no longer attached to the screen, but attached to objects on the path. Every time you click on the thumbnail (set path), you will see this orange line which shows what will be visible on the screen in Show Mode. Once visible, the orange line will disappear if you zoom out. I hope you now understand, but please let me know if you have any more questions.

  Thank you for explanation. Since this gray border works in prezi desktop all the time, i tried to continue with making my presentation. But now new problem occured. When i try to insert an image, nothing happens. I click INSERT/IMAGE then new window pops out, i select picture on my computer and click insert and... nothing happens. The window closes when i click insert, but there is no picture inserted. It's frustrating. Please help.
  
  I tried with many pictures, even with those which i previously could insert (when working online).

Funny thing is, that in meantime i installed prezi desktop and there the gray frame works just fine. Why is that so? :)

In Prezi Desktop we currently have the previous Aspect Ratio implementation with the gray guide line because we haven't yet updated the application.

The new Aspect Ratio implementation (orange line that shows what will be visible in Show mode) will be available in desktop in a future update.

Both are activated with CTRL + SHIFT + M and both work the same in Show mode the only difference being when editing.

I am trying to use hidden frames with 16:9 aspect ratio and tried hitting CTRL+SHIFT+M like this post states and it does nothing. What am I doing wrong?

Please make sure you are in Edit mode and not in fullscreen.
Also if you use a MAC try CMD + SHIFT + M.
Let me know if this works.

Make sure Prezi has focus first. You can do this by clicking anywhere on the bubble menu (the blue menu on the top left) and then try to press the key shortcut.
You should be seeing a white and black message in the center of the screen about this change.

Hi again,

I had been using IE (latest version) and switched to google chrome, and all the shortcuts now work. In IE, I noticed "undo" and copy and paste were not working with the keyboard but I just did the longer way around.

In Chrome, everything works. I guess it may be a browser issue.

If you are on a mac, try downloading and using Mozilla Firefox. Maybe switching the browser will do the trick.

When viewing my presentation with a 4:3 ratio set, my logo stay out of the frame. Moreover, my logo goes up and down following the navigation bar at the bottom is shown or hide.
